About Teriyaki Beef Skewers

Marinated to perfection, these teriyaki beef skewers are perfect for family dinners, appetizers, or cookouts. They're easy to make and fun to garnish with herbs, peppers, and sesame seeds.

What type of beef should you use?

This recipe calls for using a top round steak (also called an inside round) which is a budget-friendly cut from the rump and hind legs. To use with this recipe, it should be cut into long, thin strips and threaded onto skewers.

How long are beef skewers good for?

Once prepared, these teriyaki beef skewers can be stored in a sealed container in the refrigerator for one to two days.

Can you freeze beef skewers?

Yes, you totally can!

Once prepared and cooled, arrange the beef skewers on a plate and allow them to freeze until solid (about three hours.) Wrap each individual frozen skewer in aluminum foil, then store them in a sealed container or freezer bag in the freezer for up to three months.

Can you bake these skewers in the oven?

This recipe is written for grilling, but it's possible to bake these skewers in the oven instead.

To do this, follow these instructions:

  • Preheat oven to 425 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil. If you have a baking rack, feel free to use that as well, setting it on top of the aluminium foil.
  • Prepare the teriyaki beef skewers per recipe instructions, then arrange them in a single layer on the aluminum foil (or baking rack).
  • Bake skewers for 10-13 minutes or until the internal temperature reaches 145 degrees F.

How to make teriyaki beef skewers

This next part is only a photo tutorial of the recipe steps. If you're looking for the full recipe measurements and instructions, scroll down to Recipe Details.

Step 1 – In a large bowl, prepare the marinade by mixing the brown sugar, soy sauce, rice wine vinegar, vegetable oil, garlic, ginger, salt, and pepper.

Step 2 – Add the strips of top round steak to the bowl, then toss them in the marinade until coated.

Step 3 – Cover the bowl and marinate the beef for two hours.

Step 4 – When ready to cook, fire up your grill to medium-high. And if you're using wooden skewers, be sure to soak them in water for about 20 minutes first (to help keep them from catching fire on the grill.)

Step 5 – Thread the strips of beef on the skewers. With this much meat, you should be able to make 15-20 skewers.

Step 6 – Grill!

Step 7 – Serve and enjoy!
